Catalogue

  • Consisting primarily of texts and photographs related to the 40 individuals and groups of artists and works in the exhibition, the catalogue was published at the beginning of the exhibition in order to provide information about the artists. The artists in the book were arranged in a different order than the actual exhibition, and rather than functioning as a regular catalogue, which provides a vicarious experience of an event, the publication was designed to function like another exhibition—one that could only be possible in book format.

Parasophia: Kyoto International Festival of Contemporary Culture 2015 [Official Catalogue]

* The Sekula Readers only participated through their written contributions to the catalogue. In the fall of 2014, Parasophia co-organized a forum called “Allan Sekula: Between Photography and Text, Image and Geopolitics” with the Association for Studies of Culture and Representation. The book also contained a record of the radical ideas presented by the panelists: professors Satoshi Bamba (Niigata University), Osamu Maekawa (Kobe University), Morihiro Satow (Kyoto Seika University), and Keisuke Kitano (Ritsumeikan University).
* The catalogue was produced with four different covers, using images of works by Lisa Anne Auerbach, Pipilotti Rist, Ann Lislegaard, and Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster (clockwise from top left).
